Hamlin takes pole for Chicagoland Busch race
JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- Denny Hamlin ran a lap at 179.503 mph on Saturday morning to take pole position for the NASCAR Busch Series race at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday afternoon.
Nine of the top 10 qualifying spots were taken by Nextel Cup Series drivers who also are running in the Busch Series this weekend. Nextel Cup regular and Busch Series points leader Carl Edwards will start second alongside Hamlin with a lap of 179.319 mph.
The only non-Cup regular to qualify in the top 10, Aric Almirola, will start third, followed by Kasey Kahne and Dave Blaney.
